Jerome H. “Jake” Curtis, 84

Jerome H. “Jake” Curtis, 84, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Christ the King Manor.

He was born May 18, 1928, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Frederick C. and Anna C. (Kuptz) Curtis.

On Sept. 30, 1948, he married Luetta “Lettie” Ruth Curtis, who preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1997.

He was a member of the Ss. Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.

He graduated from the SS.C.D. School in 1946.

He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

He used to be a volunteer driver for the courtesy van associated with the ambulance service.

He was a Sacristan of SS.C.D.

He enjoyed living in his neighborhood, woodworking and growing rhubarb, and he loved riding his motorcycle until the age of 82.

He worked for the railroad for 45 years as a yardmaster and then a clerk.

Surviving relatives include five sons and three daughters, James Curtis and wife Ann of DuBois, Jerry Curtis of Punxsutawney, Mickey Curtis and wife Mary Ellen Kaeding of Chicopee, Ma., Mark Curtis and wife Kathy of Reynoldsville, Jeff Curtis and wife Kim of Punxsutawney, Jane Curtis and husband Jim Arthur of Homewood, Ill., Marie O’Connor and husband Tim of Punxsutawney, and Joyce Pollock and husband Paul of Kailua, Hawaii; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Mary C. Carnazzo of and husband Lou of Kailua, Hawaii.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Thomas J. Curtis, Rita Hutchison, John R. “Jack” Curtis, Fred C. “Cy” Curtis and Elaine McNiff.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday March 4, 2013, at Ss. Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Mr. Curtis, to the SS.C.D. School or to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
