Janice (Erdesky) Lissy, 65

Janice (Erdesky) Lissy, 65, Lewes, Del., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, of multiple myeloma cancer.

She grew up in a military family, living in Punxsutawney, as well as California, Puerto Rico and Maryland.

She was married to Paul Lissy, who survives.

Mrs. Lissy earned her B.A., M.A., and MLS degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park. She met and married her husband while both were students at the university.

Her career as an English teacher and media specialist with the Montgomery County, Md., public school system spanned more than three decades.

In her retirement, Mrs. Lissy volunteered at the Lewes after-school program, and she enjoyed reading, travel, visiting family, and writing books for her grandchildren. Her priorities were always with family, to whom she was devoted.

In addition to her husband, surviving relatives include a son, Greg Lissy and wife Karen of Redmond, Wash.; a daughter, Diana Macchio and husband Frank of Garden City, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Nathan and Marin Lissy, and Olivia, Bridget, and Gavin Macchio; her mother, Virginia Erdesky of Lewes; four sisters, Judith, Jeanne, Joan and Joyce; two brothers, Joe and Jim; three nieces; and two nephews.

A funeral mass will be held for family and friends at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, Lewes, Del.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Lissy’s name can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del. 19963, or to St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, Del. 19958.
