James L. Sherry, 77

James L. Sherry, 77, of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

Mr. Sherry was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Juneau, a son of the late Harry E. and Hazel (McDowell) Sherry.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was married to Barbara Ann (Tyger) Sherry, who survives, of Juneau.

He was a member of Valley Chapel Church.

Mr. Sherry worked 43 years for B & P Railroad before retiring.

He was a member of the FCRV Family Campers and Hikers and the John W. Jenks Lodge No. 534 in Punxsutawney.

He loved traveling, camping and time with family.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by a son, Douglas E. Sherry and wife Kathy of Mertztown; two daughters, Debra A. Burkett of Punxsutawney and Darla J. Steiner and husband Jeffery of Sharpsville; three brothers, the Rev. Harry C. Sherry and wife Naomi of Friedens, Donald R. Sherry and wife Kay of Rossiter, and Thomas R. Sherry of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Jocelyn Sutter and husband J.R., Amanda Sherry, Derek Burkett, Steven Sherry, Keelie Steiner and Macie Steiner; a great-grandchild, Keaton Sutter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Rowland.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, where a Masonic Service will be held at 6 p.m. by the John W. Jenks Lodge No. 534.

Additional viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Valley Chapel Church in Juneau, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Cindy Duffee officiating.

Everyone is asked to go directly to church.

Interment is private for family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Sherry's name to Valley Chapel Church or to the donor's choice.
