James Earl Bennett, 78

James Earl Bennett, 78, of Ridgway, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.

He was born Aug. 7, 1934, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late James Robert and Ella Grace (McQuown) Bennett.

On June 15, 1957, he married the former Diane Dunmire. She survives.

He served in the United States Army after the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Bennett worked at Airco Carbon in St. Marys and Punxsutawney.

He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping.

He was fondly known as “Papa” by his grandchildren and great
grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.

He was a loving and devoted husband and father.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Nancy Poy and
husband Anthony of DuBois, Patti Bennett of DuBois, and James A. Bennett and fiancée Lisa Maruca of St. Marys; four grandchildren, James Allen Bennett, Jamie Lynn Eckert, Anthony Allen Poy and Andrea Marie Poy; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, David Bennett and wife Dorothy of Ringgold, Henry Bennett and wife Jane of Rossiter, and Joseph Bennett of Phillipsburg; and two sisters, Emma Grace Snyder and husband Darrell of Reynoldsville and Dee Jarbeck and husband Richard of Punxsutawney.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Doug Wolfe.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, D.C. 20004.
