James E. “Jim” Martz, 98

James E. Martz, 98, Ringgold, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Brookville Hospital.

He was born June 30, 1914, in Ringgold, a son of the late Jesse and Catherine (Young) Martz.

On May 17, 1939, he married Faye (Young) Martz, who survives.

He was a lifetime member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Ringgold.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a teacher and assistant principal of the Punxsutawney Area School District and then became principal of the school district.

He was a graduate of New Bethlehem High School and then attended Clarion State Teachers College and received his master’s degree from Penn State.

He was a member of the Freemasons, PSEA and PASR, and was a past member of the Lions.

He enjoyed farming in the summers, horses and reading.

Mr. Martz was the last remaining member of his immediate family.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a daughter, Barbara and husband Anthony “Augie” Augustino of Wexford, Pa.; four grandchildren, A.J. Augustino and wife Laura, Jeff Edwards and wife Margaret, Jason Augustino and wife Adrienne, and Ciara Regan and husband Keith; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Edwards; a grandson, Chris Edwards; three brothers, Clair, Frank and John Martz; and two sisters, Pearl Caylor and Geraldine Broscious.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Arlene Schweitzer officiating.

Interment will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Ringgold.
