James Dowling Postlewaite, 69

James D. Postlewaite, 69, Erie, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013, at UPMC Hamot.

He was born March 31, 1944, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late James Blair and Joanna Margaret (Anthony) Postlewaite.

Jim was retired from General Electric Co., for which he worked 42-and-a-half years.
Most of his years there were spent in the Power House.

He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting with his grandson, who got his first buck in 2011.

He enjoyed restoring, displaying and pulling antique tractors, especially his two-cylinder John Deeres.

He was a member of the Brokenstraw Antique Tractor Club and the Pioneer Steam & Gas Engine Society.

He was the former fire chief of the Kuhl Hose Fire Co.

Jim is survived by his wife, Rita (Nelligan) Postlewaite; three children, Matthew Postlewaite, Heather Oberlin and husband Steve, and Daniel Postlewaite and wife Vanessa; four sisters, Bobbie Baun, Inez Nichol, Joanna Steele and Barb Hanley and husband Bob; three brothers, Dick and partner Joyce Brown, Dave and wife Joan, and Bill and wife Barb; eight grandchildren, Abby, Robbie and Jenny Postlewaite, Corey, Katie and Zack Oberlin, and Austin and Ryan Alloway; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Koval and husband Albert; and three brothers-in-law, Wayne Baun, Beryl Nichol and Dale Steele.

Friends were received at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, with the Rev. Dave Edmunds officiating.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
