James Dale Wells, Sr., 78

James Dale Wells, Sr., 78, of Nassau County, Florida, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014.

He was born Sept. 2, 1935, in DuBois, a son of the late Fred and Ida L. (Johnston) Wells.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia June Wells, on Dec. 19, 2013.

He was a member of the Gateway to Life Church in Hilliard, Florida.

He owned and operated numerous restaurants in his early years.

The past 30 years, he owned J.D. Wells Auto Sales in Hilliard, Florida, and enjoyed working on cars and going to car auctions with his son, J.D. Wells, Jr., who now operates the business.

He loved spending time with his wife and family and enjoyed Sundays with his church family.

He is survived by five daughters, Jennifer D. Wells Sherwood of Hilliard, Florida, Cindy L. Lish and husband Kevin of Yulee, Florida, and Kitty Ann Johnston and husband Paul and Lynn Shaffer and husband Randy, all of Punxsutawney, and Heidi Shuster and husband Jim of Newville, Pa.; one son, James D. Wells and wife Angela of Hilliard, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Amberlea Reed and husband Mike, Matthew Clark, Miranda Brash and husband David, Paul B. Johnston III, Jessica Shaffer, Renea Shaffer, Mallie Shuster and wife Aimee, Austin Wells, James D. Wells III and Ansley Wells; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Clark, Walker T. Brash, Cole Reed, Alexis Reed and Raylan Wells; one great-great-grandchild, Kayden Bullard; one sister, Rita Richardson of Punxsutawney; and two brothers, Charles Wells of Punxsutawney and Robert Wells of Creekside.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Wido, Mildred Wells and Betty Sharp; three brothers, Donald, Raymond and William Wells; and a son-in-law, Carson K. Sherwood.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., with Pastor Bruce Cubbage officiating.

Interment will follow at Markton Cemetery.
