Jack Robert Kromer, 84

Jack Robert Kromer, 84, of Covode, died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at home.

He was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Daniel and Isabella (Nichols) Kromer.

Mr. Kromer was a United States Army veteran, having served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam prior to his retirement.

On Oct. 12, 1950, he married the former Anna Isabelle Engle. She survives.

After retirement, he started an auto repair garage, where he enjoyed working on cars, tractors and mowers.

He enjoyed watching and feeding wildlife around his home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Jack R. Kromer and wife Carol of Pueblo, Colorado, and Janice Taylor and husband Phil of LaFayette, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Nicholas DeMay and wife Chrystal, Daniel DeMay and wife Sara, Elizabeth DeMay, Erinn Rynearson and husband James, Cheryl Billiott and husband Chad, Jack Kromer III, and Clara Taylor; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexander, Trinity, Isabella and Elliot DeMay, Zoey Smith, Garrett Rynearson, Kylie Billiott and Jonathan DeMay.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson David DeMay; three brothers, Daniel Kromer, Jr., Donald Kromer and Harold Kromer; and one sister, Ruth Beck.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Kromer's memory to the David DeMay Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Jefferson High School, 1801 S. 18th Street, LaFayette, Indiana, 47905.
