J. Karl Sutter, 80, Punxsutawney

J. Karl Sutter, 80, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital after a long illness.

A son of the late J.B. and Lillian (Sutter) Sutter, Mr. Sutter was born Oct. 9, 1930, in Covode.

May 14, 1951, he married Doris (Engle) Sutter, of Punxsutawney, who survives.

Mr. Sutter was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army.

He attended the CMA Church.

Mr. Sutter was a 1949 graduate of Punxsutawney High School, where he served on the class reunion committee until his illness. He was a member of the Sagamore VFW and the Mahoning Hills Social Center. He worked for Pepsi Cola Company for 23 years and W.G. Satterlee & Sons for 21 years.

He enjoyed gardening, working in his wood shop, and he was an avid hunter.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sutter is survived by three daughters; Karla Kyser and husband Russ of Lakeland, Fla., Vanessa Dorsey and husband Jeff of Punxsutawney, and Robyn Dearth of Lakeland, Fla.; one son, Bryan Sutter of Covode; two sisters, Jane Kropinak of Covode and Evelyn Marion of Treasure Lake; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica Grantz; one grandson, Jason Kyser; a granddaughter-in-law, Amy Kyser; and four sisters, Luella Barrett, Geraldine Hewitt, Edna Williard and an infant sister.

Friends will be received from noon until 2 p.m. today at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A military service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home with Punxsutawney VFW and the Punxsutawney American Legion officiating. A funeral service will follow with Pastor John Buchmann officiating.

Private interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville.
