It’s that time of year - the Big Run Peeper Banquet is almost here!

March 9, 2014

Jeff London, owner of Big Run Carpet, is shown standing in the swamp of the newly constructed frog pond that he built behind his store with help from his son Steven (not pictured). London is looking for the peepers that bring with them the welcome sound of spring. Unfortunately, the ice on the swamp is still covered in snow — but here’s hoping that spring comes sooner rather than later. (Photo by Larry McGuire/The Punxsutawney Spirit)

BIG RUN — We've had Punxsy Phil tell us that it is going to be a long winter. The Old Farmer's Almanac said the same thing, as did all of the weather gurus from The Weather Channel and AccuWeather — but how about the Big Run Peepers?

The little frogs that are barely the size of your fingernail are sticking with the popular forecast of a long winter, and they will peep on April 8, according to the Big Run Peeper watcher Jeff London, owner of Big Run Carpet.

The Peeper Banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, March 16, with the social hour beginning at 5 p.m at the Big Run War Memorial building.

Purchase tickets by Wednesday by calling 952-9403, 427-2310 or 249-1385.
