MT. JEWETT — After suffering through one of the most difficult nights any team could endure, the Punxsy Major Baseball All-Star's Dylan Ishman had the perfect elixir.

Ishman fired a no-hitter to lead Punxsy to a shutout victory, 9-0, over host Smethport/Mt. Jewett in the losers' bracket quarterfinals in Mt. Jewett Friday evening.

Punxsy started slowly, but Ishman was a constant the whole contest.

After a visiting scoreless top of the first, Ishman walked the second Smethport/Mt. Jewett hitter, who would turn out to be the lone base runner against him.

Ishman went on to not allow any other runners as he was helped by good defense, along with having a strikeout pitch to punch out 11 opposing batters.

"Dylan pitched really well. He hit his spots, kept the ball down and had their batters off balance the whole game," Punxsy coach Mark Ewing pointed out. "The defense behind him also had some good plays to help him."

Over six frames of work, Ishman had just the one walk as a blemish to go with his 11 strikeouts.

The Punxsy hurler received eight hits and nine runs in support of his effort, including a single and three walks of his own offensive contributions.

Willie Hoover and Dylan Huey were Punxsy's multi-hit producers.

Hoover doubled and singled, drove in two runs and scored one time. Huey singled twice and touched home once.

Conner Giavedoni accounted for the only other Punxsy extra-base hit with a two-run double and came around to score.

Ethan Blose singled and drove in two runs, while Austin Ewing singled and had a fielder's choice RBI.

Andrew Britton and Logan Johston added an RBI apiece, with Cameron Smith pinch-running and scoring.

"We hit the ball well when the opportunities were there," noted Ewing.

After two scoreless frames, Hoover and Huey had consecutive singles with one out.

Britton was able to bring Hoover home with the first run on a Smethport/Mt. Jewett misplayed ball.

Ishman walked, before Johnston made it 2-0 on a run-scoring fielder's choice.

Punxsy went back to work with another pair of runs in the top of the fourth.

With one out, Micah Kriebel was hit by a pitch, and Smith pinch ran for him. Blose walked and both runners moved up to second and third on a passed ball.

Hoover connected with the biggest hit at that point of the affair with a two-run two-bagger down the right field line to double the lead to 4-0.

For the second frame in a row, Punxsy would double its advantage.

With Ishman on third, Ewing hit into an RBI fielder's choice to make it 5-0. Two hitters later, following a Smith walk, Giavedoni laced a double to right center field to score a pair. Blose added his own run-scoring single to extend the margin to an 8-0 difference.

Punxsy picked up an unearned run in the sixth, before Ishman completed his no-hitter for the 9-0 final.

"Our guys stayed positive and up after a slow start. We played well the whole game and hope to continue it on into our next game," concluded Ewing.

Punxsy will have one day off before facing the Cameron City/Brockway winner on Sunday.

The game will be a 4 p.m. first pitch at a site to be determined.
