EDINBORO — Last Saturday, the Punxsutawney Indoor Track and Field team opened its season by traveling to Edinboro University to compete along with more than 40 other Western Pennsylvania schools at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association's (TSTCA) Meet No. 2.
The TSTCA's Edinboro meet No. 1, scheduled for two weeks ago, had been cancelled due to extreme snow and weather conditions in Edinboro, and Punxsy coach John Smith said, "The kids were ready to go and were just glad to get a chance to run, jump or throw in an actual meet."
Nate Ward had what Smith called a "great showing" in the mile run with a time of exactly five minutes to finish 21st overall out of 86 competitors.
He also impressed by coming back with a 10:32 (34th overall) in the 3000-meter race later in the day.
Punxsy freshman Bo Dinger finished with a time of 5:24 (48th overall) in the mile run and ended up just two seconds behind Ward in the 3000-meter with a time of 10:34 (35th overall).
Smith said, "Dinger's aggressiveness paid off for him in the later stages of the race."
Luke Fugate also com-peted in the distance events, finishing in 5:37 (60th overall) in the mile and 11:12 (45th overall) in the 3000.
In the sprints category, Tom Pisoni, Will Boddorf and Eric Ingros competed for Punxsy, finishing the 60-meter dash in 7.92, 8.26 and 8.58 seconds, respectively.
Pisoni also competed in the long jump, recording a jump of 14' 6" for 47th overall.
Alexis Minich also competed in the field events for Punxsy, tossing the shot 26' 4" (28th overall), with teammate Casi Aul not far behind at 24' 1" (38th overall).
Punxsy's next outing is this coming weekend, again at Edinboro University, at the TSTCA's Meet No. 3.View more articles in:
