INDIANA — Indiana's boys' golf team had five different players score in the 30s on the front nine at the Indiana Country Club to defeat Punxsy, 188-211, Wednesday afternoon.

"It's tough to beat a team when they have five guys play in the 30s," head coach Josh Conrad said. "That's unheard of in District IX. Indiana always has a tough team."

Indiana was led by Matt Holuta, who shot an even-par 36 and Colton Wiggins and Steve Sanderson, who each shot one-over 37s.

Indiana's final two official scorers, totaling five by WPIAL rules, were Parker Jones and Jordan LoPiccolo, who each shot 39s.

Punxsy was led by Micky DeChurch, who shot a 39, highlighted by a birdie on the par-five fifth hole.

Ian Miller scored a 41, and Ryan States finished just three shots off DeChurch's pace with a 42.

Punxsy's final two scorers were Jesse Verdill, who shot a 44, and Mike Blose, who came in with a 45 in his first match of the year.

"We played well," Conrad said. "If you look at the scores, we were able to scrap out some decent ones on a course that most of the guys had never seen before. I was pretty happy with the scores. It's just a loss, that's all. Sometimes you run into a buzzsaw."

Home-course advantage plays a part in many of these matches, and Conrad said that the course was one that gave the home team, which has played many matches there, a distinct advantage.

"It's a course very different than ours," he said. "It's narrow, and you have to play it a few times to know what club you should be hitting off the tees. They come here next year, so hopefully, that's an advantage for us."

Conrad's not too focused on next year yet, though.

He's more worried about today's match, in which Punxsy travels to DuBois to take on DuBois Central at 3:30 p.m.
