Members of the local police force and the Punxsutawney Fire Department saw off the competitive cheerleader squad from Punxsutawney Area High School on Thursday afternoon, as they departed for the state championships in Hershey, Pa.

The snow picked up just in time for the departure, similar to confetti falling from the sky.

Maybe it was Mother Nature’s way of wishing the team good luck. Punxsy will compete Friday, and — if the team qualifies — Saturday as well.

When it comes to children riding in cars, safety always comes first.
