PUNXSUTAWNEY — After getting a late start with planning, the Home for the Holidays parade will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, in downtown Punxsutawney.

The Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce encourages those groups, organizations, individuals and businesses that wish to be in the parade to get their registration in as quickly as possible.

Entry information and forms are available for download online at Punxsutawney.com or by calling the Chamber at 814-938-7700, ext. 2. Entry forms are requested to be completed and turned in by Nov. 18.

This year’s parade is being sponsored by several businesses. The Gold sponsor is FEMCO Machine Co.; Silver sponsors are Burkett’s PAWS and Punxsutawney Dental Inc.; and Bronze sponsors are M.J. Weaver
Electric, Kuntz Chevrolet-Buick, Smatlak & Gigliotti, DMD, and John Quatroche.

The Home for the Holidays parade marks the return of Santa Claus to town. Following the parade, Santa will visit with children in the window of the Agape Student Housing building (formerly the Arcade) at 105 West Mahoning St.

This year, there will be no fireworks after the parade.

Also on tap that same Saturday is Mistletoe Madness, a downtown area promotion. Several downtown gift and specialty stores will have giveaways, craft vendors, food, music, and special sales that day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Then, after the parade, the Punxsutawney Rotary Club will host its annual Circle of Trees Light-Up Night in Barclay Square.

Nineteen trees decorated by area organizations encircle the Barclay Square bandstand upon which stands the 18-foot community Christmas tree with more than 700 lights.

All the trees will be lit that night in a brief ceremony that follows the parade.
