Helen Shaffer Freeman, 83

Helen Shaffer Freeman, 83, of Savannah, Ga., died Sunday afternoon, March 18, 2012, at Shadowmoss Plantation under the care of Odyssey Hospice in Savannah.

She was born in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late Haven and Gladys (Kougher) Shaffer.

Ms. Freeman was a former member of Epworth United Methodist Church and was a retired beautician.

She was an accomplished artist who taught painting at Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Dana Stacy of Savannah.; two sons, Mitchell Freeman and wife Jennifer and Jeff Freeman and wife Kathleen, all of Savannah; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Ave., Savannah.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Nathan C. Godley officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey — East.
