Helen Ruth (Piper) Schrock, 100,

November 4, 2010

Punxsutawney, (the Fordham area), died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, four days short of her 101st birthday, with her family by her side.

She was born Nov. 5, 1909, in Emporium, a daughter of the late John and Addie Piper.

She was married to Clair Schrock, who survives. They were married for 68 years.

After marrying in 1942, the couple moved to the Punxsutawney area, and in 1950, to their home near Valier. There, Mrs. Schrock was a homemaker and helped Clair run their farm where they raised chickens and later beef cattle.

She worked as a bookkeeper and assistant manager of McCrory’s Five & 10 while she lived in Emporium.

She was very active in the Valier United Methodist Church where she was a member. She was the church treasurer until 1995. Mrs. Schrock taught and helped with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was on numerous committees and the official board of the church and assisted with countless programs.

Some of her greatest pleasures were provided by being involved in projects such as providing funeral meals, working with missionary conferences and Sunday School conventions, organizing the Strawberry Social each February, and the many activities and programs of the Women’s Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Schrock’s life was one of Christian love, and she will be missed by the many whose lives she touched.

In addition to her husband, surviving relatives include three daughters, Claire Barnett and husband Carl of Erie, Eileen Smith and husband Geary of Fordham, and Sandra Kaza and husband George of Fordham; a son, Fred Schrock and wife Amy of Jackson, Miss.; eight grandchildren and their spouses; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, and from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at the Valier United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at the church with Pastor Greg Spencer officiating.

Interment will be in the Valier Cemetery.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the VNA and Family Hospice of Punxustawney; the Valier United Methodist Church; or the Breast Cancer Society.
