Helen Emma Craven, 90, of Brookville, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Richardsville, a daughter of the late William Webster and Edna May (Heeter) Brownlee.
On June 14, 1947, she married John Louis Craven. He preceded her in death in July of 1990.
She was a member of the Countryside Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher at the church and spent over 25 years in Child Evangelism through after-school Bible study.
Mrs. Craven was a substitute teacher at Pine Creek, Warsaw and Brookville schools.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and reading and was an avid bird watcher. She also loved picnics with her family.
Helen is survived by five children, John William Craven and wife Margo of Punxsutawney, Catherine Marie Cangemi and husband Ronald of Spring, Texas, Clayton Eugene Craven and wife Teddi of Brookville, Kenneth Wayne Craven and wife Karen of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Anna Rose Teis and husband Rev. David of Las Vegas, Nev.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one brother, Theodore Brownlee and wife Alice of Hazen; and two sisters, Naomi Moore of Summerville and Betty Crosby and husband Robert of Brookville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Owen Devere, Charles Lloyd, Thomas and William Brownlee; and three sisters, Leona Marie Malic, Louise Chamberlin and Vada Brownlee.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Brookville.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Donald Pendley.
Interment will follow at Rigg's Cemetery.
