Helen Curry, 100

Helen Curry, 100, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Arden Courts in Allentown, Pa.

She was born July 22, 1912, in Sandy Ridge, Pa., a daughter of the late Christian and Elizabeth (Hoover) Cowher.

On Jan. 26, 1946, she married Theodore R. Curry, who preceded her in death on May 12, 1990.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney, where she served as a member of the Diaconate and the Board of Trustees.

She was a graduate of Osceola Mills High School and the Altoona School of Commerce.

Prior to her marriage, she was an executive secretary of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Altoona, and after her marriage, she was a secretary to five administrators of the Adrian Hospital of Punxsutawney.

She was a past regent of the Punxsutawney Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as a member of The Order of Eastern Star, Progressive Study Club, Punxsutawney Historical and Genealogical Society, Friends of the Library, Punxsutawney Area Hospital Auxiliary and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Linda Bartholomew and husband Dean of Allentown, Pa.; a son, Brian Curry and wife Claudia of Indiana, Pa.; four grandchildren, Elise Bartholomew of Bethlehem, Pa., Colin Bartholomew and wife Sarah of Quakertown, Pa., Logan Curry and fiancée Holly Hungerford of Indiana, Pa., and Brendon Curry of Indiana, Pa.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Stultz; and a brother, Paul Cowher.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2013, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the funeral home with Terry Fye officiating.

A brief service will be held by the Punxsutawney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at 7:15 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2013, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in Mrs. Curry’s memory, to the First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney, 209 East Union St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
