Harry "Ed" Dunkle, 82

Harry "Ed" Dunkle, 82, of Brookville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.

The son of Edwin McCullough Dunkle and Priscilla Dorothy Boyd Dunkle, Ed was born Nov. 19, 1930, in Sligo, Pa.

On July 23, 1954, in Brookville, he married Mabel D. "Sis" Carrier, who survives.

Ed served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Ed served three terms as the Jefferson County Sheriff and was also a past warden of the Jefferson County Jail in Brookville.

He was Protestant by faith and was a member of the Hobah Lodge No. 276 F&AM in Brookville and the Coudersport Consistory, where he was a former Commander-in-Chief.

He became a 33-degree Mason on Sept. 27, 1994, in Cleveland, Ohio and received the Order of the Purple Cross of the York Rite. He was a past Master of the Curwensville Masonic Lodge and was very active in the Masonic Order.

Ed was also the past president of the PA Sheriff's Association and a member of the F.O.E. No. 983 in Brookville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Judy Wensel of Curlsville, Pa., and Linda Elliot of Clarion, Pa.; a favorite sister-in-law, Kitty Lou Williams; two granddaughters, Tammy Lynn Miller (David) and Ashley McAninch; and four great-grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherry Lynn McAninch; and a sister, Ruby Fagley.

At Ed's request, there will be no public visitation. 

Interment will take place at the Pisgah Cemetery in Corsica, Pa.

Memorials in Ed's name can be made to the DuBois Regional Medical Center Hahne Cancer Clinic or the DuBois Regional Medical Center Hospice at PO Box 447, DuBois, PA, 15801.
