Harold Fredrick Hartzfeld Jr., 80, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 24, 1932, in Gaskill Township, a son of the late Harold Fredrick and Phyllis Evelyn (Limerick) Hartzfeld.

He was veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.

March 19,1955, he married the former Mary Louise Irvine, who survives.

Harold worked as a coal miner and a heavy equipment operator for mining coal.

He loved being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His true enjoyment was in being outdoors, farming and taking care of the barn.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include three children, Shirley Louise Bowser and husband Gerald, and Evelyn Marie Brunner and husband Butch, all of Punxsutawney, and Harold Michael Hartzfeld and wife Barbara of Jasper, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Kenneth Cedric Campbell and Eric Campbell of Punxsutawney, Justin Bowser and wife Brandi of Punxsutawney, Valerie Bradford and husband Phil of Jasper, Ala., Stephanie Hartzfeld, Katie Roberts and husband Doug of Alabama, and Melanie Barnett and husband Stephen of Fulton Dale, Ala.; four great-grandchildren, Eric and Zachery Bowser and Madison and William Roberts; two sisters, Dorothy Wazelle and husband Donald of Punxsutawney and Marie Roush and husband Ronald of Waterford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Bowser; and two brothers, Clifford and Lee Hartzfeld.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at the funeral home co-officiated by Pastor Dawn Krishart and Pastor Butch Brunner.

Interment will follow at Bowers Cemetery, Gaskill Township, Punxsutawney.
