H. Ray Pifer, 90

H. Ray Pifer, 90, of Reynoldsville, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Pifer was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Big Run, a son of the late Irvin G. Pifer and Uzella (Rhoades) Pifer.

He was married in May of 1945 to his wife, Olive I. (Timblin) Pifer, who survives, of Reynoldsville.

They were married 67 years.

Mr. Pifer was a lifelong resident of the area and the family's 8th generation homestead farm.

He was an entrepreneur and inventor.

He was the owner of Pifer's Poultry & Egg Business, processing 100,000 birds per year.

He operated a large grain farm and was a wholesaler/retailer for the Ralston Purina Co.

He was the first to receive bulk feed via the railroad for customers and
had numerous inventions.

He enjoyed swimming and boating at his summer home on the Clarion River.

He also enjoyed building and creating; he loved children; and he was a
devoted husband and a central pillar of strength in the family.

In addition to his wife, Olive, surviving relatives include a son, Harold R. Pifer of Reynoldsville; a daughter, Linda Altany and husband Ron of Natrona Heights; four grandchildren, Laurie Ann Pifer of Reynoldsville, Howard R. Pifer of Aliban, David R. Libbon of South Carolina and Jonathan R. Libbon of Harrisburg; four great-grandchildren, Parker R. Pifer, Hannah Fetterman, Abbigail Rae Libbon and Natalie Michelle Libbon; and two sisters, Pauline Russ and husband Joe and Marie Postlewaite.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ken Pifer and Earl Pifer.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with David R. Libbon officiating.

Interment is private for family.
