Gwendolyn A. Black, 88, of Brookville, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Clarion Hospital.

Mrs. Black was born Feb. 19, 1925, in New Castle, a daughter of the late George Welsheimer and Nellie (Woodward) Welsheimer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis M. Black.

She was a member of the First Church of God in Brookville.

Mrs. Black loved her Bible, sewing, crocheting and reading.

Gwendolyn is survived by four sons, Francis M. Black, Jr. and wife Susan of Raleigh, N.C., David W. Black of Brookville, Robert C. Black and wife Darlene of Punxsutawney and Timothy L. Black and wife Laurie of Punxsutawney; two daughters, Janet Ellenberger of Punxsutawney and Debra Adams and husband Robert of Acme; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Francis, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory; two brothers, George Welsheimer and Donald Welsheimer; and a half-sister, Marjorie.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.

Additional viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at the funeral home, with Pastor Henry Scoff officiating.

Private interment will follow at Circle Hill Cemetery.
