PUNXSUTAWNEY — When a team consists of many younger players, it will often go through some growing pains. The hope is that one day the experience level will pay off and be a benefit to the players down the road.
After picking up its first win of the season, Fezell Enterprises Youth Legion team — which consists mostly of players on the younger end of the age spectrum for Youth Legion — fell to 1-4 on the season with a tough 22-8 loss to Walbeck in the Indiana County League.
Twenty of the 30 runs scored in the game came in the first two innings, with Fezell hanging right with Walbeck at first.
Walbeck opened the game with six runs in the top half of the first, but Fezell answered with three to stay in the game.
When Walbeck put up six more in the second, Fezell again rebounded, scoring five runs of its own to bring the contest back within reach at 12-8.
Unfortunately for Fezell, though, Logan Dellaforia came in to pitch and threw three one-hit, shutout innings to silence the Punxsy offense.
Dellaforia's performance at the plate also stood out, as he led the Walbeck offense with a five-RBI night.
Colby Skulltetty also had a solid performance for the winning squad with a 2-for-3 performance — including a double and a triple — driving in three runs and scoring four.
For Punxsy, four different hitters had a pair of hits, led by Zach Bevak, who notched a double for Fezell's only extra-base hit of the game.
Lucas Ambler and Joey DiPietro each drove in a pair of runs to go with their two hits, and Dylan Huey put up a pair of hits and scored two runs.
Up next for Fezell is a road contest this evening — a 6 p.m. game at Marion Center.View more articles in:
