Groundhog Court selected at PAHS; King, Queen to be crowned Thursday

The Groundhog King and Queen are to be crowned Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the PAHS gymnasium. PUNXSUTAWNEY — PAHS seniors have selected four boys and four girls to make up the 2013 Groundhog Court.

The court will be honored during an assembly to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. At that time, the 2013 Groundhog King and Queen will be crowned.

This year’s court includes Alysha Bridge, Alexah Fedigan, Jeane Pifer, Carley Smith, Drew Cooper, Pasquale Defelice, Taylor Phillips and Austin Sabatucci.

• Alysha Danielle Bridge is the daughter of Michael and Rae Ann Bridge of Timblin.

She is enrolled in the academic curriculum at PAHS.

Bridge has been involved in Bible Club in grade 12; Bridge Ministries, Key Club, grade 10; and Powderpuff, grades 11 and 12.

She has served as a Bible school teacher and is a member of the Ringgold Theatre Group, Choir and Ringgold United Methodist Youth Group.

She has been on the honor roll in grades 9-12.

Her future plans are to attend Clarion University to pursue a degree in education.

• Alexah Gabrielle Fedigan is the daughter of Mary Kay and Terry Fedigan of Punxsutawney.

She is enrolled in the academic curriculum at PAHS.

Fedigan has been a boys’ basketball statistician in grades 11 and 12 and a member of SADD Club, grades 9-11; Key Club, grade 10; Ag Club, grade 12; Powderpuff, grade 12; and was an office helper in grade 11.

She has been named to the honor roll at PAHS and attends SS.C.D. Church and works at Burger King.

Her future plans are to attend Edinboro University to pursue a degree in nursing.

• Jeane Mae Pifer is the daughter of Rod and Penny Pifer of Reynoldsville.

She is enrolled in the academic curriculum at PAHS.

Pifer has been involved in Bible Club in grades 9-12; Bible Club secretary, grade 11; Bible Club president, grade 12’ Art Club, grades 10-12; Science Club, grades 11-12; Student Government, grades 9-10; cheerleading, grade 9; soccer, grade 10; boys’ basketball statistician, grades 10-12; Dramatics Club, grade 12; Key Club,grade 10; SADD Club, grade 12; and Powderpuff grades 11-12.

She attends the Tri-County Church of DuBois.

She has been honored as Student of the Month in grade 10, a PRIDE Award recipient in grade 12 and has been on the honor roll in grades 9-12.

Her future plans are to attend DuBois Business College for graphic design or a career in photography.

• Carley Brooke Smith is the daughter of Linda and Tim Smith of Punxsutawney.

She is enrolled in the general curriculum at PAHS. Smith has been involved in track, grade 9; soccer, grade 10; Show Choir, grade 10; Ski Club, grades 9-10; Shadow staff, grade 12; Powderpuff, grade 12; and Art Club grade 12.

She attends Cloe United Methodist Church.

She has been honored on the honor roll at PAHS and through a PRIDE award nomination.

Her future plans are to pursue a career in music.

• Drew Alexander Cooper is the son of Timothy and Brenda Cooper of Punxsutawney.

He is enrolled in the academic curriculum.

He has been involved in Key Club, grades 9-12; Science Club, grade 12; National Honor Society, grades 11-12; Math Club, grades 9-12; Ski Club, grades 9-11; Drama Club, grades 10-12; and Spanish Club, grades 11-12.

He has been honored as Student of the Month in grade 10 and Rotary Boy of the Month in grade 12.

His future plans are to attend a post-secondary school for an undecided major.

• Pasquale Francis Defelice IV is the son of Pat and Pam Defelice of Punxsutawney.

He is enrolled in the academic curriculum at PAHS and has been involved in soccer in grades 10-12; Spanish Club, grades 11-12; Spanish Club co-president, grade 12; Science Club, grade 12; Ski Club, grade 9; and was a Powderpuff cheerleader in grades 11-12.

He attends SS.C.D. Church and is an altar server. His future plans are to attend a four-year college as an undecided major.

• Taylor James Phillips is the son of James and Lisa Phillips of Punxsutawney.

He is enrolled in the academic curriculum at PAHS. He has been involved in National Honor Society in grades 11-12; NHS vice president, 12; Spanish Club, grades 11-12; Spanish Club vice president 12; Baseball Association, grades 10-12; Baseball Association treasurer, grade 12; Math Club, grades 9-12; Science Club, grade 12; and Math Team, grade 11.

He has been honored as Rotary Boy of the Month in grade 12, Student of the Month in grade 9 and as a selection for National Honor Society.

He has also earned varsity letters in baseball and soccer. He attends SS.C.D. Church and is an altar server.

He also enjoys hunting, fishing, camping and being with friends and family.

His future plans are to attend an undecided post-secondary school to pursue pharmacy.

• Austin Dean Sabatucci is the son of Tina and Rich Kuntz of Punxsutawney and Ron Sabatucci of Pittsburgh. He is enrolled in the academic curriculum at PAHS.

He has been involved in Student Government in grades 11-12; Student Government vice-president, grade 12; Spanish Club, grades 11-12; Spanish Club secretary, grade 12; National Honor Society, grades 11-12; Science Club, grades 10-12; and football, grade 9.

He has been honored with the VFW Americanism Award and Student of the Month in grade 9 and has made the high honor roll at PAHS.

He works at The Medicine Shoppe and serves as Junior Borough Council Member for Punxsutawney. His future plans are to attend Penn State University to major in political science.
