PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney Phil’s home-away-from-the-burrow is about to receive some cosmetic work.
This week, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club announced that it has received a landscape design matching grant from the Pennsylvania Wilds Design Assistance Program, with a grant from National Parks Serves Preserve America Fund and DCED Municipal Services Fund.
Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at Gobbler’s Knob — the site of Groundhog Day — the club will hold a public awareness and input meeting to provide information about the grant and some of the preliminary ideas. A representative from PA Wilds will also be present.
The purpose of the matching grant is to allow the Groundhog Club to employ a landscape architect to assist us with the planning and designs for improving Gobbler’s Knob access, appearance and experience.
The group has retained Mike Mohney from Penn State to start the design process. The initial focus is enhancing the main entrance.
The public is invited to attend this meeting to ask questions, offer comments and enjoy refreshments.
