Grace Davis Chelgren, 91

Grace Davis Chelgren, 91, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born May 26, 1920, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late William Henry and Anna M. (Black) Davis.

Sept. 19, 1940, she married Harry Chelgren, who preceded her in death July 27, 1996.

Mrs. Chelgren was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the Altar Guild.

She was also a member of the Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild and the Community Concert Association. She was active in the aerobics program in Punxsutawney.

Mrs. Chelgren graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1938, and was a class officer for high school reunions.

She was a clerk/stenographer for the Pennsylvania State Police from January 1956, through December 1985.

Surviving relatives include two sons, William H. Chelgren and wife Kendra of Marion Center, and Thomas R. Chelgren and wife Nancy of Punxsutawney; a daughter, Janet C. Lyons of Punxsutawney; six grandchildren, Rebecca Gemmell, Karen Diem, William K. Chelgren, Brian Lyons, Nathan Lyons and Laura M. Chelgren.; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Martin and husband John of Crystal Spring.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Morgan (Ray) Davis and Robert Davis; and three sisters, Ruth Wood, Mildred Doverspike and Mary Harrick.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, and from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at the First English Lutheran Church.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at the church with the Rev. Maureen Seifried officiating.

Interment will be at Circle Hill Cemetery.

Memorials in Mrs. Chelgren's name may be made to the First English Lutheran Church, the Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society or the Crosstown Food Pantry at the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church.
