FOXBURG — When the shots are dropping, the Punxsy Lady Chucks have been winning this season.

On Monday night, the Lady Chucks started the night hitting their shots for a strong start on their way to a 59-39 victory over the host Lady Falcons of A-C Valley.

“We shot the ball very well tonight. We had good look and did a nice job running our offense,” commented Lady Chucks coach Randy Reitz.

The Punxsy director continued, “Our defense, we continued to press the ball very well and we able to get a lot of turnovers off it.”

The Lady Chucks (13-8) used the hot shooting in the first eight minutes to run out to a 22-10 lead and never looked back.

The big night was enjoyed by sophomore Jensen Constantino. The forward put the ball in the basket eight times from the floor and made five of six foul shots for a 21-point outing.

“Jensen got going with a very good start to the night,” pointed out Reitz. “(Nicole) DiPietro came in and knocked down her shots as well,”

DiPietro connected on six two-point baskets and one trey for nine points.

Taylor Newcome chipped in a pair of triples and had nine points of her own.

Alyssa Reitz drained one three-pointer and finished with seven tallies.

Anna Horner put in two buckets for four points.

Ashley Reitz, Amber Ward and Emily Horner all had two points apiece. Emma White dropped in one free throw.

With a 12-point lead, the visiting squad made it two winning periods in a row with a 10-8 second frame. The second winning eight minutes gave Punxsy a 32-18 intermission advantage.

The Lady Falcons (5-14) saw their deficit almost double in the opening two to three minutes of the second half.

“We were very good coming out of the half and led by as many as 24 points in the first two to three minutes,” said Reitz.

A-C Valley battled back but still lost the third, 18-14, for a 50-32 score after three periods. Punxsy claimed the lowest scoring frame of the night, 9-7, for the eventual 59-39 win.

In the night’s opening game, the Punxsy junior varsity squad took away a three-point, 29-26, win over A-C Valley.

Tied at six, the Lady Falcons put together a 12-9 second period for an 18-15 halftime score.

Punxsy won the third quarter by enough points in the end, 11-5, to pull in front 26-23.

In a low-scoring final period, both teams managed only three points to keep the Lady Chucks in front for the three-point victory.

Ward led all Punxsy JV scorers with eight points.

Hope Bridge chipped in seven points.

Ivy Ferko, Morgan Doverspike and White netted four points apiece. Claire Smith accounted for the final two points.

Punxsy will have three days of preparation for its regular season finale on the road against defending District IX champion Bradford on Friday night starting at 6 p.m.
