PUNXSUTAWNEY — This weekend promises a good time, not only for the children but for the entire family, as taking place for the first time in this community will be the Children's Health Fair, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Punxsutawney Area Community Center.

The event is being hosted by Lifespan Family Services and AmeriHealth Mercy.

It is being funded through a special grant that is used to promote healthy children and family in communities through exercise, nutrition and behaviors.

The event is specifically geared toward children and families and will offer a variety of family-oriented activities.

Expert specialists from AmeriHealth will be speaking on topics from bullying and childhood weight management to sports safety and heart health for children.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the community center entrance, and each child will be given a punch card. Children will then take that card to each of the 18 vendors in attendance. When they visit each vendor, their card will be initialed.

After visiting each vendor, children will then enter their cards into a drawing that will give them a chance to win one of the three door prizes — a bicycle, a 32-inch flat-screen TV and a Nintendo Wii.

Children will also have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes throughout the day.

Vendors set up throughout the gym will be offering products specifically geared toward children and parents.

"This is our first annual event, and we are hoping it turns out well," said Meri Collins, foster care director of Lifespan Family Services.
The event is free to the public, and free food will be provided by Fox's Pizza Den.

Van Dyke and Company will perform a dance demonstration and will allow children to take part afterward.

Children will also have the opportunity to learn ZUMBA — the new dance-fitness craze.

Other events that will take place include story time with Phil and "Balloons by Ben."

Kindermusik will be on hand to teach children about music and will allow them to try out different musical instruments. If weather permits, the Punxsutawney Fire Department will bring a fire engine for children to check out.

Vendors expected to attend include: Lifespan Family Services; AmeriHealth Mercy; Cen-Clear Child Services; Jefferson County Children & Youth Services; Tri-County Nursing, LLC; Pampered Chef; 31; Punxsutawney Fire Department; Gigliotti Chiropractic Center; Clarion-Jefferson Head Start; Children's Aid Society; Playhouse Children's Center; Kindermusik; Community Action, Inc.; Mary Kay Cosmetics; Scentsy; Meadows Psychiatric Center; and Van Dyke and Company.

The following events are scheduled to take place:
• Childhood Weight Manage-ment at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.;
• Bullying discussion at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.;
