Gladys Louella McQuown, 94

Gladys Louella McQuown, 94, Frederick, Md., formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Bell Township (Albion), a daughter of the late William H. and Emma (Sankey) Bargerstock Buck.

She was a 1936 graduate of Punxsutawney High School, and in 1939, she married Samuel McQuown, who preceded her in death in 1988.

Mrs. McQuown was a former member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and the Women's Auxilliary of the Elk Run Fire Department.

After retirement, Mrs. McQuown and her husband spent many fun-filled years in Seabring, Fla.

She moved to Frederick in 2000 to be near her granddaughter and healthcare advocate, Stacy Benner.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Joyce Ann Smith and husband Harry of Green Valley, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Stacy Benner and husband John of Myersville, Md., and Gail DuPont and husband Keith of Eagleville; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Benner and Emily and Matthew DuPont; a brother, Clinton Bargerstock of South Holland, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Twila Bowers, Avonell Bowser and Margaret "Peg" Nogacek; a half-brother; Clair Bargerstock; and a half-sister, Rosebelle Kuntz.

Friends will be received at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, where a funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Glenn McQuown officiating.

Interment will follow at Circle Hill Cemetery.
