Girl, 4, injured in crash

PERRY TOWNSHIP — A young Amish girl was struck by a car Friday afternoon after she ran out in front of the vehicle along Route 210, Perry Township.
According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a 1996 Honda Accord driven by a female whose name was not available at Spirit press time was traveling south on Route 210 when a four-year-old Amish girl ran out onto the highway and into the path of her vehicle.

Police said the driver attempted to brake and swerve to the left in order to avoid striking the girl, but was unsuccessful in doing so,and the girl was struck by the vehicle and subsequently injured.

According to police, the girl was transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of her injuries by Jefferson County EMS.

Police said the girl was listed in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Police were assisted at the scene by Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company. The investigation continues.
