BELL TOWNSHIP – Anglers from across the state are gearing up to fish their favorite spots at 8 a.m. on Saturday, which marks the traditional statewide opening day of trout season.

Rick Vlazek, Jefferson County Waterways Conser-vation Officer said that since mid-February, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has been busy replenishing waterways with a fresh supply of brook, brown and rainbow trout.

"We stocked 2,400 rainbow trout and golden trout in Cloe Lake today that are ready to be caught on opening day this Saturday," Vlazek said, adding that Cloe Lake is now able to be fished 365 days a year.

"From March 1 through 8 a.m. on opening day (Saturday), if you catch a trout, you have to release it unharmed," Vlazek said, adding that anglers should use a barbless hook, because trout are so delicate and tend to swallow the hook a lot.

He said the PFBC has completed stocking in all the creeks and streams in Jefferson County.

Opening Day will be Saturday, with a start time set for 8 a.m.

Fish caught must be a minimum of 7 inches in length to be kept.

Fishing hours are 24 hours a day after the 8 a.m. opener.
