Gertrude McCauley, 79

Gertrude McCauley, 79, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born June 11, 1931, in Vienna, Austria, a daughter of the late Karl and Theresia Geborene (Schreiner) Unmuth.

She had recollections of very hard times in Germany, which included bread rations and being made to salute Hitler in her early years of life.
July 14, 1956, she married her beloved Albert Merle McCauley Jr., who preceded her in death Dec. 31, 2002.

She and her husband traveled to Italy, Spain, Germany and all over the United States with his military career in the Army.

In 1991, they moved to Punxsutawney to make their home and be near family. She loved her farm and enjoyed feeding the chickens and cows daily.

Mrs. McCauley loved to bowl and was a member of a bowling league in Punxsutawney. She was also a member of the Moose and the Eagles.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Gerlinda Skrobanek and husband Robert of Austria; nieces and nephews Howard Keibler and wife Carol of Saltsburg, Dexter Keibler and wife Barb of Punxsutawney, Ron Keibler and wife Debbie of Butler, Eric Keibler and wife Brenda and Joann Keibler of Saltsburg; a sister-in-law, Agnes Keibler of Punxsutawney; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Timothy Keibler.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney. 

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. today at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Swoger officiating.

Interment will follow at Northpoint Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. McCauley's memory to the Gateway Humane Society, 1211 Airport Rd., Falls Creek, PA 15840.
