Gerald F. Peffer, 82

Gerald F. Peffer, 82, of Marchand, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 1, 2014, surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1931, in the Adrian Hospital, Punxsutawney, a son of the late Reese and Ruth (Brown) Peffer.

In addition to his parents, Gerald was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Ellen (Cribbs) Peffer. They were married Feb. 15, 1963.

Gerald served his country in the US Army during the Korean War Conflict,

He lived his whole life in Marchand, and he worked as a house mover, lumberjack and farmer. He was a member of the Marchand United Methodist Church.

He loved being on the farm with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include his children, Dorothy Stiffler and husband Blair of Cherry Tree, Mary Ann Eyler and husband Todd of Home, Ruth Smith and husband Brian of Anita, Lester Peffer and wife Betsy of Marchand, and Brenda Peffer and fiancé Kirk Sweat of Marchand; 11 grandchildren, Nick and wife Brittney, Reece, Tori, Becky, Hannah, Jeremy, Rebecca, Cheyenne, Cody, Briana and husband Anthony and Rachel; 5 great-grandchildren, Gage, Haley, Kylee, McKenzie and Dimitri; one sister, Jane Buterbaugh of Carlisle; like-a-daughter, Sandy Gresock and husband Mike of Punxsutawney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Gerald F. Peffer Jr.; one sister; Helen Horning; brother Wilbur Peffer; and an infant grandson, Hunter Irwin.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Topar officiating.

Private interment will be at Mahoning Union Cemetery in Marchand.
