George Michael Misurda, 66

George Michael Misurda, 66, Clymer, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana.

He was born June 19, 1945, in Clymer, the son of the late George and Christine (Laverick) Misurda.

He was married to Janice (Magas) Misurda, who survives, of Clymer.
Mr. Misurda was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer site, and also sang in the choir.

He served six years as a specialist in the U.S. Army Reserve with Company B, 458th Engineer Battalion of Indiana. He was a tool and die maker by trade. He served on Clymer Borough Council and the Municipal Authority.

He was a member of the Clymer Volunteer Fire Company for 52 years, having served as fire chief for 26 years, most recently as safety officer.

Mr. Misurda was a member and served as past president of the Cambria County and Vicinity Fire Association, and served as vice-president and honorary past president of the Indiana County Fire Chiefs' Association. He was also a member of the Western PA Firemen's Association and the Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association.

He was an avid train collector and member of the Train Collectors' Association. He often shared his love of trains with his family. He was the family jokester and could usually be found with a daughter in tow for special projects.

In addition to his wife of 43 years, surviving relatives include two daughters, Nichole and husband Sgt. Nathan S. Minich of Cypress, Texas, presently serving his country in the Marine Corps. - Afghanistan; Ashley and husband Douglas W. Clawson and granddaughter McKensie L. Clawson of Houston, Texas.; a sister, Joyce Simmons and husband Wayne of Indiana; two brothers-in-law, Michael J. Magas of Paulsbo, Wa., and George S. Magas and wife Cathy of Damascus, Md.; three nieces, Amy, Leah and Jane; and four nephews, Marc, Nick, Eric and Alec.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the Harry J. Bence Funeral Home, Clymer.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer site, with Fr. Timothy J. Kruthaupt as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the Church of the Resurrection cemetery, Dixonville.

The family requests that memorial contribution be made to Scholarship Fund of Central District Firemen’s Association or Western PA Firemen’s Association.
