Gary Lynn Korney, 63, Glen Campbell, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, in Banks Township, Indiana County.
He was born Feb. 8, 1948, in Punxsutawney, a son of Dorothy (Brickell) Korney, who survives, and the late Thomas Korney.
Aug. 22, 1970, he married Margaret â€śPeggyâ€ť P. (Janocha) Korney, who survives.
Mr. Korney served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.
For most of his career, he was employed in the coal mining industry, where he had worked for the Don Jury Coal Company; Johnstown Coal & Coke at Bear Run; Barnes & Tucker; and then the Greenwich Collieries.
Mr. Korney attended the Church of the Resurrection in Glen Campbell, and was also a member of the UMWA and the Glen Campbell American Legion.
He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed vegetable gardening and camping with family.
Mr. Korney loved spending time with his grandchildren and going polka dancing with his wife. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time in his â€śman roomâ€ť at his home.
In addition to his mother and wife, surviving relatives include five children, Michele Renee Pearce and husband Ronald Jr. of Glen Campbell, Dennis Paul Korney and wife Kristy of Punxsutawney, Kimberly Ann Carey and husband Bryan of Marienville, Tammy Marie Nalevanko and husband Dave of Penn Run, and Christopher John Korney and companion Stephanie Shick of Punxsutawney; six grandchildren, Rachel Carey, Hunter Pearce, Vincent Carey, Lily Nalevanko, Jacob Pearce and Brandon Bish; and three brothers, his twin, Terry Korney of Streetsboro, Ohio, and Thomas Korney and Randy Korney, both of DuBois.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Diana Korney; and his grandparents, John and Ollie Korney, and Samuel and Olive Brickell.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at the Rairigh Funeral Home Ltd. in Hillsdale.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at the Church of the Resurrection, Glen Campbell.
Interment with military honors will be at the parish cemetery in Glen Campbell.
