Gary Lee Pontani, 65

Gary Lee Pontani, 65, Starford, went to be with his Lord Thursday, April 7, 2011, at UPMC-Shadyside, Pittsburgh.

He was born March 25, 1946, in Indiana, a son of the late Herman Armand and Dorothy Aileen (Shaw) Pontani.

Mr. Pontani started his career as a postmaster in Starford, then went on to Clymer, Homer City and finally retired as postmaster of the Punxsutawney Post Office.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Indiana VFW Post 1989, a former member of the 40-8 Club and NAPUS.

Mr. Pontani was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Surviving relatives include two children, Seana M. Nichols and husband Kevin W. of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Matthew T. Pontani and Amber Luzier of Starford; a son-in-law, Thomas W. Phillips of Saxonburg; five brothers and sisters, Bruce Pontani and wife Mary Beth of Penn Run, Karen Straw and husband Ron of Marion Center, Denise Henry of Clymer, Christine Bence and husband Mike of Clymer, and Marlene Lazor and husband Bill of Hillsdale; six grandchildren, Kody, Jenna, Zachary, Ryan, Eric and Dalton; two great-grandchildren, Damien and Bentley; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Caitlyn Phillips.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Harry J. Bence Funeral Home, Clymer.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by Clymer American Legion Post 222.

Interment will be private.

Mr. Pontani will be very much missed by his family, and we hope that you will join us in the remembrance of his life.
