March 11, 2014

Gary Daniel Douthitt, 36, of Mahaffey, Pa., died Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital in Punxsutawney.

The son of Dennis Gary Douthitt and the late Elaine Marie (Rorabaugh) Douthitt, he was born on Feb. 19, 1978, in Punxsutawney.

Gary earned an associate’s degree in HVAC from Penn Tech.

He was a self-employed farmer who raised beef cattle.

He had also been employed at Rorabaugh Lumber Company in Burnside, Pa.

Gary’s main focus in life was his family. He loved spending time with his wife, Sara, and his son, Ethan.

He truly was the cornerstone of his immediate and extended family. He was treasured and loved by all of his family members for his pivotal role as being “the center” around which they all revolved.

Gary was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed spending hours watching all kinds of sporting events.

An outdoorsman, he also liked to go hunting.

He married his wife, Sara B. (Zembrzuski) Douthitt, on June 2, 2007.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sara Douthitt, and their son, Ethan Daniel Douthitt, both of Mahaffey, Pa.; his father, Dennis Douthitt of Mahaffey, Pa.; his sister, Holly M. Merrits and husband Scotty of Punxsutawney; and a number of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and
in-laws.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine, on June 20, 1980, and by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Marie (Blose) Rorabaugh, with whom he had made his home.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, Pa., where a 1 p.m. funeral service coordinated by his wife, Sara, will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014.

Interment will be at the Burnside Cemetery in Burnside, Pa.

Memorial contributions in honor of Gary may be forwarded to the Tom Siple Foundation, 1656 Ringgold-Timblin Rd., Timblin, PA 15778 — a foundation that made possible an opportunity for Gary to take part in a
deer hunt last fall.
