After a long bus ride that departed New York City at 10 a.m. Thursday, the first group of Fresh Air Kids arrived at the SS.C.D. parking lot around 3:45 p.m. to greet their host families for a few weeks of fun, sun and activities away from their urban surroundings.

The family of Kelly and Buddy Ross — which includes Jenae Dawson (far left), Brielle, Ahslynn and Ryon Ross — of Sigel, welcomed Fawziyah Salman (second from left), 11, of Bronx, N.Y.
