Freda L. Cowie, 89

Freda L. Cowie, 89, Southington, Ohio, died at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Gillette’s in Warren, Ohio.

She was born May 15, 1921, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late James Mallus and Eleanor Graul Mallus Lender. 

July 3, 1940, she was united in holy matrimony with her husband, Ronald Cowie, who preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1980.

Mrs. Cowie was a 1938 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and retired from the United Telephone Company. She was a member of the Pioneer Club of the United Telephone Company and enjoyed camping at Holiday Campland in Andover, Ohio, traveling and spending time with her family.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Judy A. Beckwith and husband Russ of Southington; three grandchildren, Pam Smith and husband Bob of Southington, Janet Howard and husband Rusty of Warren Township, Ohio, and Scott Bower and wife Melanie of Southington; a step-granddaughter, Penny Stout and husband Jeff of Southington; seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie Rhodes and husband Bill, Brian Howard and wife Tomithia, Stacy and Jennifer Howard, Josh and Brittanie Gillium and Scotty Bower; and two step-great-grandchildren, Nickole and Brandon Stout.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, William Lender; and a brother, Paul Mallus.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, Warren.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Circle Hill Cemetery in Punxsutawney.
