Fred C. Kammerdiener, 74

Fred C. Kammerdiener, 74, Northpoint, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe.

He was born May 1, 1936, in Putneyville, a son of the late Harold L. and Dorothy Marie (Lorigan) Kammerdiener.

June 1, 1963, he married Louise Kunselman, who survives.

Mr. Kammerdiener served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He worked in the mining industry in all aspects for more than 30 years, including several years working with and for his father and his company. He retired in 1994 due to a mining accident.

Mr. Kammerdiener enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include four children, John Kammerdiener of Indiana, Leslie Simon and husband Sid of Lebanon, Julie Shrum of Derry, and Tim Kammerdiener and wife Beth of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Doug Kammerdiener and wife Meg, Chanel Ludwig and husband Scott, Brad Shrum, Josh Shrum, Brianna Kammerdiener, Kevin Kammerdiener, and Justina Metts and husband Larry; nine great-grandchildren, Kai Ludwig, Grant Metts, Samantha Metts, Bradley Metts, Kleora Downes, Jeremiah Downes, Madeline Metts, Benjamin Metts and Lucas Metts; three sisters, Doris Goodyear and husband James of Clymer, Peggy Stickel and husband James of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and Judy Smock and special friend Howard Baldwin of Dunkirk, Md.; and a brother, Roger Kammerdiener and wife LaDonna of Clymer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, June L. (Fuhs) Kammerdiener.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the Alcorn Funeral Home, Hawthorn.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the New Salem Cemetery, Redbank Township, Armstrong County.
