Francis J. “Woody” Brauer, 65

Francis J. “Woody” Brauer, 65, Punxsutawney, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at Mahoning Riverside Manor.

He was born Feb. 2, 1946, in Long Island, N.Y., a son of the late Francis S. and Margaret M. (Schneider) Brauer.

He was married to Elizabeth Ann (Bonfanti) Brauer, who preceded him in death Jan. 9, 2009.

Mr. Brauer served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later served many years in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Robert J. Brauer and Thomas E. Brauer, both of Tampa, Fla., and James A. Brauer and wife Dana of Punxsutawney; a brother, the Rev. Donald R. Brauer and wife Debra of Rochester Mills; three sisters, Barbara A. Lisa and husband Joseph of Treasure Lake, Virginia E. Haines and husband Jerry of Homer City, and Patricia J. Brauer of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Lauren Brauer, both of Punxsutawney; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Rossiter United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Brauer officiating.

Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or to the Disabled American Veterans Association.
