Forrest “Corky” John Hawk, 94

Forrest “Corky” John Hawk, 94, of Canoe Ridge, Indiana County, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at his daughter’s home in Canoe Ridge.

He was born Dec. 23, 1916, in Canoe Ridge, a son of George and Velma (Smith) Hawk.

Oct. 3, 1940, he married the former B. LaRue “Toots” (Mumau) Hawk, who preceded him in death April 6, 1979, after almost 39 years of marriage.

The majority of Mr. Hawk’s career was spent as a carpenter. He was a life member of the Local Carpenter’s Union based in Buffalo, N.Y., and retired in 1979 as a shop supervisor with Hadley’s Exhibits in Buffalo.

He had worked in the local coal industry in the Glen Campbell and Rossiter areas. He was also the owner of the former Woodlawn Service Station & Garage located along Route 119 near Marion Center.

Mr. Hawk enjoyed spending time in the outdoors going fishing and camping.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Beverly A. Gaston and husband James of Canoe Ridge; a son, Daniel “Butch” Hawk and special friend Christine Johnson of Claremore, Okla.; a son-in-law, Richard Stojek of Chaffee, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lola Gromley of Canton, Ohio, and Ethel Fetterman of Cookport; and his girlfriend, Winnie Collins of Mesa, Ariz.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty J. Stojek, in 2006; a sister, Dorothy Seger; and a brother, Herbert Hawk.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at the Rairigh Funeral Home Ltd. in Hillsdale.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at the Union Church, Union Hill Road, Rossiter.

Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery, Rossiter.
