First same-sex marriage ceremony performed in Jefferson County
Roger Fye (right) and William Schlagel (center) are Jefferson County's first legally recognized same-sex couple, after being married by Judge John Foradora in a ceremony at the Jefferson County Courthouse on Tuesday.
Same-sex marriages have been recognized in Pennsylvania since May 20, when U.S. District Court Judge John E. Jones III ruled that the state's statutory ban was unconstitutional.
Schlagel and Fye have known one another for five years and have been partners for two.
Fye is a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, while Schlagel is originally from the Pittsburgh area.
They currently reside in the Rathmel/Reynoldsville area.
