April 29, 2012

JOHNSONBURG — Punxsy's junior high track team traveled to the annual Johnsonburg Junior High Track and Field Invitational Saturday, and out of 12 teams, the Chucks took fifth place overall.

A number of Chucks helped the cause, which was led by Nathan Lingenfelter, who placed second overall in the triple jump, measuring in at 35-1.

The Chucks also had two third-place finishes. In the field events, Alex Young earned third in the shot put, throwing 38-0.

The 4x800-meter relay team also earned points by finishing third with a time of 10:21.20. The team included Brady Young, Joseph Whitman, Devin Kelly and Austin McKendree.

The other relay team which placed for the Chucks was the 4x100-meter team, which consisted of Ethan Riley, Brady Snyder, Lingenfelter and Alex Young. The team finished in a mere 53.97 seconds.

The distances running was a very strong point for the junior high boys. In the 1600-meter run, Kelly finished fourth overall in 5:28.

He was followed closely by Brady Young, who earned sixth in 5:35, which was his personal best.

The final place winner on track was McKendree, who took sixth overall in the 3200-meter run by clocking in at 12:28.
