Father who lost son delivers sobering message to students at PAHS on dangers of drinking & driving

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The students at Punxsutawney Area High School (PAHS) have listened to many presentations regarding the dangers of drinking and driving, but none were quite as poignant as the program put on by Vern
Hilyer this week called "DUI — A Life Sentence" — not for his son, but for him.

"I'm serving the sentence every day since my son died in an auto accident on Sept. 10, 2005 due to alcohol," Hilyer said, adding that his late son, Brandon Hilyer, was a very talented athlete who played soccer and basketball and was known for his speed on the field.
