(Editor’s note: This piece is one in a series of “Familiar Faces Friday” features to be written by Spirit reporter Destiny Pifer. The point of the project will be to highlight a member of the community who may be recognizable to many and tell his or her story. Today’s familiar face is Tom Berryhill.)

BIG RUN — Tom Berryhill is a familiar face. Those who frequent Wachob’s Market in Big Run during the early morning hours may recognize him as the morning greeter who occasionally helps out at the market. Or perhaps you have seen him throughout the community, whether it’s Big Run or Punxsutawney.
Berryhill was born in Donora, Pa., and raised in Waynesburg.
After graduating high school in 1953, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marine division, he fought in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1956.
In 1957, Berryhill joined the Pennsylvania State Police and remained on the police force for 39 years.
