Eugene R. "Red" Bowser, 83
Eugene R. "Red" Bowser, 83, Punxsutawney, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Bagdad, a son of the late Floyd and Grace (Wolfe) Bowser.
April 15, 1951, he married Joan M. (Smith) Bowser, who survives, of Punxsutawney. They were married 59 years.
Mr. Bowser attended the Albion United Methodist Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Bowser was retired from the B&O Railroad as an engineer.
He loved tinkering in his garage, crossword puzzles, gardening and lawn work. He and his wife walked daily through town.
In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two sons, Eugene Bowser Jr. and wife Donna, and Russell "Rusty" Bowser, all of Punxsutawney; a daughter, Susan Campbell and husband Thomas of Indiana; a sister, Cecile Stitt of Ono; three grandsons; Jason Frederick, Michael Frederick and Nicholas Bowser; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a infant daughter, Deborah Bowser; two brothers, Sam Bowser and Dick Bowser; and a sister, Maxine Robinson.
Friends were received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, at the funeral home with Pastor Dawn Krishart and Pastor Harold Brunner officiating.
Interment will follow at Ridgemont Cemetery.
