Eugene Miller North, 86

Eugene Miller North, 86, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born on March 20, 1927, in Panic, a son of the late Roy W. and Lillian (Miller) North.

Mr. North served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He was one of the last Charter members of the VFW Post No. 9044 in Big Run.

He was first married to Emma Jean Kline, who preceded him in death. He later married Mary Louise Richardson. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

Mr. North owned North’s Farm Service in Clearfield and was a business partner with his brother, Wilbur North, in the Big Run Milling Company.

He enjoyed hunting, bowling and baseball. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh
Pirates and Steelers.

He is survived by two children, Donna Tangren and husband William of DuBois and Roy North of Punxsutawney; five step-children, Judy Goulish and husband John of Punxsutawney, Dan Ritchie and wife Kay of Punxsutawney, Georgia Trombino and husband Joe of Fredricksburg, Va., Kathy Auer and husband Phil of Bethel Park, and Debra Reed of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; step-daughter-in-law, Zoe Ritchie of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Krista and Michael Tangren; and a sister-in-law, Lucille North.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Emma Jean; a brother, Wilbur North; twin sisters, Isabell and Lucille North; sister Janice North; a step-son, Jimmy Ritchie; and a step-son-in-law, Randy Reed.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Dawn Krishart. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Circle Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. North’s memory to the Big Run Presbyterian Church, PO Box, Big Run, PA 15715, or to the charity of one’s choice.
