Eugene J. "Luke" Blackburn, 84

Eugene J. "Luke" Blackburn, 84, of Home, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 29, 1928, a son of Matthew and Mary (Brindlinger) Blackburn, at Standard Shaft, Pa.

Eugene worked as a cable inspector for Alltel - Murrysville.
Luke was a World War II veteran serving in the Marines.

He was also a member of the Smicksburg Lutheran Church, Sagamore VFW, Punxsutawney Legion and owned Luke's Sporting Supply.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Hart) Blackburn; four daughters, Joann Blose and husband Allen of Home, Mary Jane Turner and husband Lionel of Takoma Park, Md., Eugenia "Jeannie" Thomas and husband Paul of Patton, Pa., and Kathleen Sunderlin and husband Donald of Mahaffey, Pa.; a sister, Christine Konieczny and husband Chester of Mt. Pleasant, Pa; two sisters-in-law, Angeline andMarcia Blackburn; five grandchildren, Alexis Blose, Amelia Turner, Greer Turner, Brandon Gilbert and wife Amy, and Matthew Sunderlin; three great-grandchildren, Jonathon, Makayla and Nicholas Gilbert; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lawrence "Larry" Blackburn; four brothers, Bill, Raymond, John and Matthew Blackburn; and three sisters, Opal Jacquette, Adelaide Shandorf and Etta Mae Farrah.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, and from 11 am. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the at Carson/Boyer Funeral Home, Inc., 724 Main St. Rural Valley, Pa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the Smicksburg Lutheran Church, Smicksburg, with Pastor Arlene Schweitzer officiating.

Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sagamore, with full military honors by the Armstrong Co. Honor Guard.
